I really like the idea of this, as I've found it hard finding places that sell older technology. However, it's unclear to me how new entries are added. Do I have to be a business to add an entry, or can I go in and add stores in my area that I know are missing?
There is a (very small) link at the bottom for "Add Listing". Looks like you have to create a login to submit and manage listings. I'm not sure if it's intended for business owners to do it since that also seems to be for managing events.
I can say that at least one of the entries likely isn't from a business owner. The map has one of their locations, but is missing several of the others.
As a whole, I also really like the idea. I know of a lot of places that cater to retro stuff (not just gaming) in my area and it has taken me the better part of a decade to find them. I can only dream of the places that I haven't found. Sadly, several of my beloved places have closed down and I can't help but wonder if a directory like this might've saved them.
The categories don't make a lot of sense to me, to be honest. For example, there's "bar/pub/eSports": I don't think it makes sense to lump those together. Should an eSports lounge that doesn't serve drinks be tagged with that? Should it be a cafe instead?
What about a barcade? Is it an arcade or is it a "bar/pub/eSports"?
I am also entirely confused why half of the filters for the map are things that only have a digital presence and, thus, no geographical location.
You can also suggest a listing to them to add. I presume they will reach out to the venue to see if they want to be added or not. I've already suggested a local venue near me they didn't have in their database.
It is getting hugged to death. It is a map with locations of retro computing/gaming points of interests. Think arcades, bars, shops. Really cool idea. Going to use this to find cool places to checkout in places I visit from now on.
if the author of this has any interest in collaborating with a designer please let me know. Huge fan of this and would be happy to contribute. peter at peter[HNusername].co
